Loved this idea and your zeal for a cheap solar mirror. To assist you in your endeavor, I would suggest rather than applying foam/glue, use vacuum. Build a metal cuboid with two square surfaces and depth more than depth of the dish required with all edges welded air tight. Coat the edges with some paint so that it remain air-tight. Drill a circle of required diameter on one square side. On back side of it drill a small hole and insert a metal tube in it and weld it in place. Paste a reflective film on the front side. After the film is stuck tight, start sucking air from the tube on back side. As air is sucked out it will form a perfect concave dish without any folds or wrinkle on the sheet. Close the back side tube with pin. The air tight ness of the sheet as well as box matters most here. The smoothness of circular hole also matters most. Please try and let us know. All the best.

Would painting the back of the film increase its durability? you could use polyurethane roof paint which is already made to resist the sun and weather for at least 10 years. You could also coat the front reflective side with clear plastidip for cars which is UV resistant, tho the later might be more expensive than replacing the film.

Sad but true if you had a buffed out piece of quarter inch thick aluminum it would be like a mirror on each side of the solar panel try it will give you more than 6 times the amount of energy in 1 panel thus to control the heat .to not burn the panle

Can you heat the metal dish enough to melt the expanded polystyrene to make a better film support? then you'll need less glue and have a more precise mirror. Just use a good mold release or grease otherwise the melted poly will stick to the dish!

Cut the film in some places, so it has an easier time laying flat. A large piece can't take curvature in to dimensions. A few cuts will help it out a lot, and you can re-cover any open places with your scrap pieces of reflective film.

Stirling engines work on temperature difference between two cylinders. Heating the hot side is easy but we shouldn't ignore the cold side. I'm picturing two sand batteries located side by side, one for heat and the other for cold, on valve switched circuits. On cloudless nights point the mirrors vertically to radiate heat from the cold circuit out into space. The Stirling engine's two cylinders can be embedded directly into the sand batteries. It might take a month or more for everything to start working, depending on the size of the batteries and mirror array, but once it starts it could continue working for extended periods of clouds.

Now make a small hole to fill in the foam in the Box and close the small hole. Now the foam will expand and Press the foil against the dish.
